A Day in 2020
I wake up. My alarm clock is ringing. Another night is over. Another boring day starts; I have to go to school. I wish I could finally end school and get a prestigious job, for example to develop new robots for the hospital. Anyway, I’m working hard to get my dream job: to become an engineer or an astronaut flying to the Moon. I go downstairs, where my family is already waiting for me. The TV is on and the news is tuned in. A building in Dubai has reached the 1km-mark and is now the highest building in the world. Wow, that’s really impressive. Why couldn’t our nation construct buildings that high?
My mum asks me, if I want to go by the mono rail train or if I want her to drive me because of the snow. I look outside. Indeed, I didn’t notice the snow so I decide to go by car. Before we leave the house I want to have a little drink of water from the tap. But then I remember. Since yesterday it’s forbidden to drink from the tap because of the high water pollution. I really do hope that the water pollution will get under control in the next years. What about our children and descendents? Should they live in a world without clean water? I think not, but what have I got to say? That’s one of the reasons why I want to live on the moon. Without stupid humans who destroy our planet.
My mum is shouting at me to come to the car. It’s a hybrid-car. Everybody has got a hybrid car, as they are very cheap. I get in the car and my mum starts to drive. I look out of the window. I see the snow falling on the streets. I also see a lot of business men with suits and briefcases on the street. Where are they going? What kind of deal will they strike today? I don’t know. They probably will have a boring day like everyday - and like me.
My mum says that we are rushing into a traffic jam ahead. Therefore, we are taking a detour through the ghettos. I don’t want to be in the ghettos because it’s ugly there and it smells. I see a lot of dirty and poor people. It’s unbelievable how the situation of the people has become worse over the past years.
I cannot believe how people live.
I want to help them yet I can’t.
I want to leave the car and help them to live their lives but I can’t.
Thinking this tears are rolling down my face.
The rest of the day was very boring: In school we solved math exercises; in IT we learned how to programme a robot that can play football. All in all, nothing particularly special happened. However, this morning’s drive through the ghettos has opened my eyes. Sometimes I wish I could have lived a few years ago. True, they didn’t have cool robots or something like that but they didn’t have to deal with such big problems as we are having today either. We have to do something for our earth.
Ø We have to stop the water pollution and the poverty on this planet!
Ø Not just one or two countries!
Ø The whole world has to take part!
