Man In The Mirror
Over the years mankind has done things both right and wrong. Many things to be proud of and many things we would like to forget. It is important to learn from our history not to make the same mistakes again.
Better distribution of food and energy has improved during the last hundred years. This is basically because of better transportation systems, technology and information. But there is definitely room for improvement. There are still many people dying from starvation, lack of water and energy. The industrialized countries are supporting the developing countries; they are doing so by sharing their resources and by helping them with the developing of their educational systems.
The rich countries have become richer in relation to the developing countries. This tendency has to stop. To do so, we could donate more money to these countries or we could try to give them more work so that they could earn their own money and stop depending too much on the intake from other countries. It is hard to change the willingness in the rich countries to share their wealth with the poorer parts of the world.
We have more medicine, better healthcare systems and knowledge that increase life quality and prolong our lives. This is just in the industrialized parts of the world. The majority of the world’s population has not enough support of local healthcare systems. Especially women in developing countries are not educated enough and supported to take care of their family’s welfare.
Even though we have many types of medicines and vaccine to take care of today’s threatening diseases, like malaria, AIDS and different epidemics. We can still spend more money on research and Research and Development (RND).
We have more democratic political systems. That allocates political power to more people. We are starting a process of making the countries more democratic, several dictators in the Islamic countries have in the last couple of years lost their power over the people. New political parties have taken over, and they try to build a democratic system. This will make the world a better and easier place to live in. But this process is not a walk in the park as oppositions is often rioting against the new systems.
Organizations like Unite Nations (UN) should be given more political power to enforce dictators and undemocratic regimes to change their political systems.
How can we begin to improve our world? We can start off by doing as Michael Jackson said:
I’m starting with the man in the mirror
I’m asking him to change his ways
because no message could have been any clearer
If you want to make the world a better place, take a look at yourself and make the change!
There is a clear message in this song. We can’t just sit in front of the television and expect someone else to improve the world for us, we have to make an effort ourselves. We don’t have to go out in a warzone while waving a white flag ourselves; we can change the world from the side-line as well. We can show support by donating money, or by doing charity work. This will make the world an easier place to live in.
